Worldwide orchestra?
I was wondering, would it be at all possible for musicians around the world to become a part of the final soundtrack?
If a score could be sent to the people interested and able, could the final cut include their recording? Cause that would be soo cool!!!
Not only would the actors be from around the world, but the orchestra too!!!
Does anybody know of a way to do something like this? Please post!

I think this idea is awesome. It would be along the same lines as the videos, but a little bit different. I have experience in using different tracks and putting them together (i do record different bands... haha) And i think this idea is great.
Perhaps not the whole soundtrack, but a final piece that culminates everything. Maybe the final credits, or perhaps a piece for during the movie. I like this idea alot, because you can only use so many pieces for the movie, there is only so much time we can use. But a globaly composed, recorded and edited, is utterly AMAZING. We could have a guy in london record violin, a guy in nyc record an electric guitar riff, a girl in tokyo record a drum track, and a girl in ireland record flute, etc etc etc. then each track can be sent in to one person, who would edit, and sync up all the tracks. This would have to be a composed track, with music and possibly midi to help the artists record.
loving this idea SO MUCH!

Re: Worldwide orchestra?
I am a sound mixer for my church as well as a local rock band that just chills out and does covers, but I can help mix the music for the soundtrack. However I am better at live sound than digital so I don't know how useful I am lol.

Re: Worldwide orchestra?
i'm well versed in digital recording/mixing/editing. But let's see where this goes first before we start delegating tasks that can't be started yet.

Yey this seems like it could work. Although, as previously said, the whole soundtrack cannot be from a worldwdie orchestra (I'm beginning to like using that term!), maybe a re-occuring short motif. I'm planning to have a career in Music engineering, but I'm still at school, so unfortunately I'm no help myself on the editing side of things
But it's great to know that some people are interested an willing to help... thank you!

I hope so! That would be sooo COOL!

This has been done before but possibly not in this context.
It would be very easy to include performances from world wide musicians in the sound track - I have done this for many other projects and it can work great.
The musician would need a basic studio setup - multitrack recorder / computer with a decent microphone and headphones. They would be sent the "backing track" and the musician would record his or her part on a separate track while the backing track was played into his / her headphones.
That separate track would be timed perfectly with the master project (hence the necessity to play the part with a backing / click track in the headphones) and it could be dropped right in to the master project.
So anyone with a basic studio setup would be able to work in this way.
Perhaps something to think about in building a database of interested performers is the necessity to get a sample of audio from their home studio.

Re: Worldwide orchestra?
that really does seem like a brilliant idea.
would we need to have somebody to compose something, and then have sheet music, and people contribute and everybody choses the best parts,
or somebody could make a backing track and people just improvise over it?

Love the idea. Best to get music first then assign sections to people.
Put me down for piano and or music editing. I'm unusually lucky when it comes to editing music (lucky meaning the selections and things) Got Audacity down; and a pretty okay with Pro Tools.
Get some composers in on it.

Re: Worldwide orchestra?
awesome idea would really fit in with the music.
i dont think people even need ability to read music.
when basic instruments are recorded we could send the song out and maybe people could just be part of a 'choir' they could all lala along to the same tune as a nice choir background.
it could build up in a nice godspeedyoublackemperor-esque way allowing for more instruments:D
excitingg
