Re: PLEASE NO GUNS.
Guns are perfectly believeble... I'm here in Western PA and almost everyone has a gun. We all hunt. It's perfectly explainable... Just look at the end of the original "Night of the Living Dead" There were a bunch of rednecks with rifles walking around.
Re: PLEASE NO GUNS.
Well obviously they're not going to be pulling of headshots while running a la the Dawn of the Dead remake though it sounds like there's a lot of political bias behind this suggestion, especially the one about a guy shooting himself. I think it'd be best if we didn't attempt to use the movie to preach about firearms, whether it's pro-guns or not.
Guns...what about swords
I live in the UK.
I have a fully functional blank firing version of the Glock 17 pistol which is popular with european police forces, due to its enclosed hammer mechanism, and a kind of trigger safety lock mechanism which makes it impossible to fire the gun unless you are actually holding the thing properly. This is considered to be much "safer" (haha) than one whre the hammer is exposed like in a Beretta or Colt .45, for example.
Anyway the thing is two inches short of illegal, and so I dare not take it out of the house...!
I got mine before the new law came in by which all blank firing guns have to be painted bright orange! no joke!
Hell knows what kind of liscences you need for using them for filming in a public place.
Aaanyway....
I also have a couple of swords, one samurai katana sword (now also illegal to buy/sell, but not illegal to own), and one 5ft monster double edged Lord of the rings style Nazgul sword.
I would gladly offer these should anyone have any ideas about using one in the movie in the UK.
I think the innocent sword on display in someones house makes a more "british" weapon, seeing as realistically no one has a real gun in the UK.

Re: PLEASE NO GUNS.
I think you are the only one that understands my point about realistically who would be carrying guns in zombifyed Britain.
In my house i've got a crowbar, a hammer, table legs. Thats the sort of weaponary I want to see used in a British movie otherwise you as well use laser guns and lightsabres or portable nuclear warheads. Anyway to be honest I don't give a shit anymore.
