How this is going to work

Post by Paperlilies on Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:34 am

Ok I posted this elsewhere but I wanted to post it as an 'announcement' too because Ive been thinking about things and how this all is going to work as an entire process, so I thought I would let everyone know what I'm thinking in terms of the way this entire thing is going to go (hopefully as smoothly as possible)

First, we work out the plot, then write the script. That has to come first before ANYTHING else needs to really be considered. You can't write the script without having the plot worked out first.

THEN we have to make up teams of people who will work on filming. There will be various global teams, atleast one in London and one in New York, who will comprise of an entire team of director, camera crew, sound people, actors (ie, story-driven characters), extras (zombies), makeup people, SFX stuff/people, a location/people to sort out locations. Then we have to make sure we aren't breaking the law, etc etc... blah blah blah.

Then obviously they film stuff.

AT THE SAME TIME we can have other shoots, with less of that amount of organisation/people, ie, shoots of 'vlog' style scenes need only.. the stuff anyone uses for a vlog (a video camera and a computer). SO those can happen simultaneously. Things like the zombie walk in Brisbane can be filmed with jsut a camera, no big production needs to happen there. We really only need to have the whole giant team of organisers etc (like the NYC and london teams) for places where the storyline progresses and there are actual acting actors in it.

And thennnn we edit it all and score it and what have you.

At the moment everyone is understandably excited and wants to get going on this, so I do want to start assigning roles to people who want to be involved in filming, regarding where they are and what they want to do, though I don't want to start giving people jobs just yet because things change and there's no point in telling someone they will be a camera-man at a shoot that we have no idea what it is, where it is, who's going to be there, or anything about yet!

Just.. chill your boots for a minute or two my darlings! cat

The first part is the story, and the story is going to take a while to write.

See bryony,

everyone thinks things like this happen overnight. When people dont get what they want, some may kick and scream and throw a hissyfit, so be ready for that. (Hell.. you post on youtube. You've made "hater videos." what am i telling you this for?)

but i agree. This will be a BIG project, and her "zombie" video hasn't been up a week. Let more people get here, let more artists, writers, actors etc see the video and then come over here. i know everyone has zombie fever but go take a cold shower. this wont be done in a month, we'd be lucky to have it done in a YEAR. Everyone needs to chill, and relax. or.. chilax. haha

Something this big will take alot of time, effort, and working together. Let's all let paperlilies/bryony chill and look over all the stuff that's been put out there so far. This is her baby, she makes the ultimate decisions. Don't go into panic mode if she's not here for a few days, she does have a real life, and real obligations that must come first before this, as do the rest of us.

I follow Paperlilies. there's like a bunch of hungry zombies out there on the plot ideas and titles ideas sections that are saying everything and nothing and it scares me.
I'm joking, seriously. This movie could be awesome, if we just relax ourselves and saying: god damn, I got a life also out of this forum!
In fact, people that are dedicated to do this movie are people that are calm and patient, and they are not trying to take everyone's attention by saying: This is the best idea!
People that are dedicated for this movie are the one who follows paperlilies and don't try convince others. As soon as she gives us our jobs, we do it and that's all.

let's relax.....

.....hmmm....

project management software

Post by wanderingtaoist on Mon Jun 09, 2008 6:28 am

I'd like to recommend a couple of pieces of software.

Once the ball gets rolling I think some type of project management software is going to be essential. I worked with a few programs for project management and my favorite is Accomplice.

http://accomplice.com/

It's awesome. It's intuitive, better than Microsoft Project IMHO, allows for global team communication and it's free.

Another piece of software I like is Celtx. It's screenwriting software (again, free) feature rich and allows users to save their scripts to a password protected central server. So all those involved with the script writing process can have secure access.

Just a thought that popped into my head whilst reading this. Knowing youtubers someone will bring a big expensive HD camera to use for the London/New York parts, won't that then look a bit crap when the scene cuts to someones terrible quality webcam. I think restrictions need to be made here somehwere... Do a lot of people have HD camcorders?

Sounds good!^^

And I don't think the camera quality should be too much of an issue because, - well apart from, what could we do about it anyway?! - it would be fitting for survivor-like sections to be less professional smooth camera work and Blair-witch style, but I guess too blurry wouldn't be great. We''l just have to see - I reckon it would be fine as long as its edited together well in the end.

I think the different camera aspect would add to the movie, since this is a youtube inspired experiment after all.

I agree. I think there is a way for that to work to an advantage that adds a lot of charm.

i'm posting this here and in one of the other threads aswell, its just a self-righteous rant, enjoy. basically we should all listen to paperlilies, this is her brain child and she must be respected as such.

i got a private message from someone saying they were recruiting people for a team of serious zombie movie makers, i thought that was the whole point of this forum. trying to eliminate other people because they haven't had a chance to post properly is lame, paperlilies said she doesn't want there to be any barriers to entry on this project.

furthermore championing your own ideas is great but everyone deserves a say, yeah?

this definitely won't happen overnight, most films have script readings and stuff years before they hit screens, i'm not saying this will be a blockbuster but we could create some hype and so this deserves to be sweet, not rushed.

who put me in charge? no-one. i'm just saying.

Wil

ps. don't get me wrong, lets be cool.

I thought I would just take a second to voice some things I’ve been thinking about in regard to this massive undertaking.

Firstly, I would like to express my optimism – I think that making this film is a completely accomplishable goal. I believe completely in the power of the internet – if it can bring people together across whole oceans – if we can create things for other people around the world to see, why can’t we create something together? We can.

But if there is any other power in the world I believe in, it is the power of film. Films have been my passion since I watched Indiana Jones for the first time, when I was six. And I just think that if we are honestly, seriously going to make this happen, we should do it right. This is not something that should happen in a couple of weeks. It should be done thoughtfully. Obviously the first thing we need is a script, and the script should be written and rewritten. Every detail should be carefully considered. It should be the best thing we can possibly create. I would hate for people to put out huge effort only to make something substandard.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that we should not get ahead of ourselves. We should make this the best possible thing we can. And if it takes three years to make it work, then that’s how long it takes - because if in the end, I am in any way involved, (which I hope to be) I personally will not stand for anything less-than. Making this happen would be a massive accomplishment, and it would just be terrible to hear someone say, “Yeah, they made a movie over the internet. Neat. But the movie was shit.”

Yeah. I was just thinking about it. I guess it’s all obvious, but you know. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in.

I didn’t mean to sound self-righteous or anything. rabbit

p.s- i am obsessed by these smilies! that one has buckteeth!! ahagkdk;lfj!
